Reminiscence

Just had a good look through my photos on facebook over the past year or two.  Great memories.  Looking a little further back I even look almost young,,,

This week, I have mostly been feeling...

Blurk

5th!

We came 5th in our local's quiz last night. Doh! We were neck and neck with eventual winners but got 0 points on the accumulator round. Answering the first question wrong meant no more points. 1 point for question 1, 2 for 2 etc. Meant our high scoring correct answers weren't counted.

Must change tactics

Big weekend ahead

Lions game / bbq on Saturday then April's gig at the p&j on Sunday. Should be a good laugh.

RIP

I'm not sure why but i've always really liked Time Team, sadly it's been announced that one of the founder members has passed away.

I think it's down to you never know what they might find hidden in the ground, although it was invariably nothing much they managed to build an exciting story around a tiny shard of pottery or a rusty old nail.

I remember I once had an old shareware game (before Time Team) that put you in the place of an archaeologist.  You had to manage the budget and decide where to put your trenches.  It was fairly realistic as it happens as I found nothing either.  It was fun though.

Anyway, rest in peace Mike Aston.

Rail fares

When we first moved to Tonbridge our annual rail season ticket was around £2800 a year, it's now £3850, each year it had percentage increases of greater than 5%.  One particular highlight was a 12% a couple of years ago.

If this continues in line with my current salary increase then in around 70 years my rail fare will be more than my annual gross salary!  It's down to a little over 60 years on my net!!!

I'm not saying that I will be working for the next 70 / 60 years (I probably won't be alive) but it is ridiculous. When you factor that in to the fact that both of us are having to pay the fare it's a big whack out of our monthly income.

What am I going to do about it?  Not much.  I can't really drive in as the petrol and parking costs would be about the same plus I like a drink or two after work on occasion so that really wouldn't be a choice.  Could I get the bus?  Yes, but I'm not a pikey.  Plus similar to the point above they only run a couple of services at night so having a drink after work would mean having to pay for the rail fare on top.

My only plan is to win the lottery.  Saying that, I did win £13.20 on Friday.  A few more of those and I'll be laughing.

Longest day

It's the summer solstice today, that's the longest day off the year, it's supposedly the one with the most hours of daylight (it's pretty cloudy out there).
Let's just hope it's not the longest work day...
Two hours gone, five working hours left. Tick tock, tick tock. Yawn.

Face plant

Biscuit had had a hard day lazing around the house eating all her food. All she had the energy for in the evening. Was to face plant herself in the new rug.

Latest Ebay purchase

I spotted this postcard on eBay a few days ago and it's finally arrived. Now to frame it and put it up in our house. Pride of place. Downstairs loo!

Master Chef

There's no point holding a 10 week TV competition to find out who is the next Masterchef.

It's me.  And I cooked the best meal ever last night.

One of my all time favourite meals is sticky minted lamb chops.  I remember my dad used to get them for us went we went round his for the weekend (20+ years ago).  I think I have now mastered the recipe.

Sticky Minted Lamb Chops (Serves 1)

8 small lamb chops (smaller the better)
2 large tablespoons of mint sauce
2 large tablespoons of honey
1 teaspoon of whole grain mustard
Sprinkle of chili flakes (to taste)
Salt
Pepper

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl then coat the lamb chops.  Wait till April gets home then put them in the oven at 200C until Phil the kitchen guy leaves having given us his final bill.

Accompany with couscous

Couscous (serves 1)

75g couscous
8 chopped dried apricots
1 pomegranate
6 small chopped tomatoes with the seeds removed
The ripped leaves of about 4 mint sticks
50 grams of cubed goats cheese
A tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
Salt
Pepper

Pour boiling water over the couscous until covered, leave to soak.  Once fully absorbed fluff up with a fork then mix all of the ingredients into the couscous.  Leave in the fridge to cool down.  Or if you want to be completely authentic, serve with chips.

Enjoy!

In more exciting news

They've now installed Power Pivot at work which should be fun to play with for a couple of hours.

Conspiracy

Things are conspiring against me this morning.

1)      They've locked down memory sticks at work.  They're still useable but you cannot write to them
a.       They've also blocked google drive, dropbox and skydrive
2)      I bought an expensive pair of work shoes on Friday. I usually wait for the sale but have needed a new pair for weeks so just bitten the bullet.  Not only are they already hurting my feet, I walked past the shoe shop this morning on my way in and they have a sale on.

Intruder alert

After watching the BBC show Horizon on cats this weekend I've now got new incite into what my cats are thinking.

Not much.

Panic over

My phone has been successfully transferred over to giff gaff.  You can now resume contacting me with all those messages of love and well being.
So far so good.  I can even get Internet connection at work!  I must have been in a Vodafone blacks spot here in the city.

Test photo

I took this photo of my desk at work to test mms messaging work my new network. Still doesn't work...

Random night

Bored after work last night so we popped down to our local to see what was on. Great music.

Temporary number

Just transfered my mobile contract to giff gaff so am on a temporary number for up to a couple of days whilst it sorts itself out.

Email me or comment on here of you need me. Can't see that happening mind.

Not bad deal though. £12 / month for 250 mins calls, unlimited texts and data. Awesome. So I'm keeping my old phone till it dies (or I get bored...)

The wonders of modern technology

I am currently logging in remotely to my work thin client which has a session open on a server.  This all means I have a window open inside another window inside another window.  All in windows.

That's about the limit of my tech knowledge.

Waiting for...

... Fence man. I had to go into work late yesterday so I could let the guy that's doing our fence into our garden. He was late so I ended up just leaving the back gate for him.
He's due today at 8 so will be slightly late again. Fingers crossed he gets more done.
