Monster rib of beef

I massively over catered for my brother and his family coming over on Sunday.  I ended up buying a 5kg joint.  Probably more than twice what we needed.  It was pretty good though.  Shame it cost me £100.  Doh!

Ribs Sunday!

Is that a thing?  It is now.  We went to Southern Cut Barbecue yesterday for lunch and I had ribs.  We were supposed to go their on Saturday but decided against it.  With nothing in the house for lunch we popped in.

It was fine.  Not great, but fine.  The best part was the ability to order meat by the half pound.

First trip to an imax

Going to see Through the Never on Sunday with Shaheen and April at the imax in Waterloo.  I've not been to one before so looking forward to it. Before that though we're off to Hawksmoor. Can't wait for that too.

Open meat cellar

During a Christmas pub crawl yesterday I spotted this really cool butchers. I dread to think the price of a sausage in there. I'm sure it's worth it though. In the process I took the guys to 4 pubs they'd never been to before. We only got covered in glass once.

April as happy as Larry

Who's Larry? April having a sizzling plate of meat at a restaurant last week. Hot granite is excellent.

Mmm, Argentinian Steaks

A couple of us from work met up with an ex-colleague for lunch yesterday.

We ended up going to Gauchos. It's a small chain of very good steak houses. I've been to that one twice now, and i've also been to the Chancery Lane one a couple of times.

You basically get shown some very good cuts of meat on a big slab of slate then they cook it to order.

Mmm... Needless to say the afternoon went very slowly.

Picking up the meat tonight

I'm picking up the meat for the bbq tonight. James suggested meeting me half way but he's in Essex which is the other side of the river from me so he would have to pay £3 in tolls so I said that I would do it. After all, he's doing me the favour in getting the meat in the first place. Also, exchanging meat for cash in a lay by sounds a bit dodgy to me.

We're going to have a burger off, April's making some Nigella burgers with half the mince, and James' girlfriend is making her own recipe with the other half. If there's any left over i'll make some spicy Stu special burgers. They'll be so hot you can no longer taste the cider...

The price of meat

Result!

My mate James' dad is a butcher so have asked him if his dad can supply my bbq next weekend. We've got 28 people confirmed so have ordered 90 sausages and 9lb of mince. James' girlfriend will make 15 burgers, we'll make the rest. All in all it'll cost us £36! What a bargain, last year we just bought them from Sainsbury's. I think it was closer to £100.
