World book day

 It's world book day today so April made Arthur a Timmy the dog outfit from the Famous Five, and adjusted an adult dress for Flo.  Can't remember who she's supposed to be.  The book's called something about a clockwork something or other.  She does make a real effort with all this stuff.

I remember why I lost interest

I've tired to read the Lord of the Rings 3 times and just couldn't get past the first 10 chapters.  I had no problem reading the Game of Thrones books, all about as thick as LOTR but for some reason I could never persevere.  This time i'm attempting to get through it by listening to the audiobook. 

I've just got to the same stumbling block that has thwarted me previously.  When the fuckers start singing!  They've just met Tom Bombadil.  They don't stop.  I surprised they ever get to Mordor.

Luckily with the audiobook I can just skip forward 30 seconds and pray that they stop.

April's bought me a book to read

It's actually quite funny.  It's been ages since I last read a book.  Podcasts and tablet watching films and TV series has been the order of the day over the past few years.

April actually bought it for herself as the books she's been reading are aimed at women and finds they have sexist undertones...

I can't find no 7

I've recently bought the rest of the wheel of time books to complete my set but cannot find no 7 in the same collection. Being a little ocd, I find this a somewhat annoying.

The next stage will be to actually get round to finish reading the things.

Feeling a little better today

I managed to drag myself into work this morning only to find out that my trains were delayed by up to 1h or even better cancelled.  In the end I got on a slow train to London Bridge.  It should have taken a little under an hour.  It took 1h30.  And then I had to walk from London Bridge rather than Cannon Street.  Yeah!

Well done Southeastern.  (although this train was Southern).

I've started reading Stewart Lee's book How I Escaped My Certain Fate and Deaths of a Stand-Up Comedian, so not that bothered really. It was only work I missed after all.

More new furniture

Put the bookcase and cabinet together earlier. Sounds harder than it was really, it actually just needed some stands fitted. They look great. Put all the books up too.

This should keep me entertained

I thought I'd get myself a book or two for the holiday. This should keep me busy. 1036 pages.

John Safran talking about his book

After a pretty boozy weekend in London and Winchester the last thing I needed was to head back into London to see John Safran talk about his true crime book Murder in Mississippi, but I'm glad I did.

It was very funny and we both enjoyed it. April even got her book signed.

Finished the 5th Song of Fire and Ice book (Game of Thrones). Good books and great series. I hope he's got an idea as to how to finish them.

Now to pick a book from my mountain of books in my waiting list.

Over half way through the next book

I've now read 53.7% of part 1 of 'book' 3 of the Song of Fire and Ice series.  So much s I bought the second part a couple of days ago to continue the epic story.  Interestingly enough, it was at number seven in Waterstone's Leadenhall Market store twelve years after it's first publication.  George R.R Martin will be pleased.  And quite rightly so.  A very good read.

Not as short as I thought

Just picked up the 3rd book of the Song and Ice series and was relieved to see that it was only 569 pages long.  Don't get me wrong the books are great but they are terribly heavy and a pain to carry round.

Just reading the back cover and have spotted that it's part 1 of 2 of part 3 of a 7 part series. Let's hope I can finish, not like the Wheel of Time.

What would the neighbours think?

My brother asked for this book as a birthday present this year.  I ordered it a couple of weeks back and it was due to get delivered on the 1st September.  It eventually arrived on Friday, opened, the day of his birthday.  The guys that printed the address label didn't check that my house number wasn't printed so it was passed from house to house until someone openned up the package and found my full address.  Now, not only will I get spammed by Amazon with similar items but all of my neighbours will think i'm a massive geek.  Thanks Steve.

Podcast fatigue

Over the past few months i've been really getting into podcasts. I'm not sure why I never bothered with them before but I do enjoy a good handful at the moment.

I am currently subscribed to about 10 podcasts, most are around an hour long and update once a week. That's a fair load of hours to sit through. Luckily I have 2 hours commuting time each day and up to 4 hours in the gym each week. However it is quite easy to create a quite considerable back log whilst going through some of their back catalogs at the same time.

I'm also aware that since picking up the podcast bug i've also stopped reading. On my recent holiday in Morocco I brought with me about 5 books and didn't pick one up for the whole trip.

Maybe I should cut back...

We ended up getting a late deal on an all inclusive place in Tenerife.  The weather was great and we hand a really nice relaxing time.

Just been criticised at work for reading a romance novel. Neuromancer' is not chick lit!
