The smell of Reading

I sat opposite a guy on the train this morning and he spelt of Reading.  Not the place specifically, the festival.   He had a guitar case, ruck sack and sleeping bag and got off at Sevenoaks.  I wonder where he'd been or where he was going.  I hope it was home to have a bath.

Idiots

2 people in my team have never watched Star Wars.  We have an average age of roughly 30 but out of 8 of us 2 are below 25.  Both blokes, both haven't seen it.  What's that about?  We're in an especially geeky team so even more reason for them to have seen it.  Idiots!

Another white shirt.  Excellent choice Sir!  Sorry April.

The Submarines

The support act last night were excellent.  So much so, April has ordered their last two albums.  I even got to 'meet' one of them after their set.  They were at the bar at the back when the Mountain Goats were playing.  The pretty girl singer was getting pestered by a couple of fat guys so I moved in and said hello to the other bloke.  I shook his hand and told him that they were excellent.  He said thanks.

Thief

Pretty sure I came up with the basic concept of this joke over 15 years ago. Now it's been turned into a yo mama joke in a Camden pub.

Sorry Ben, it deserved better...

Exercise machine

Here are some charts from my exercise spreadsheet. The first shows my exercise activity over the past 4 years. The next two are 'zoomed' in and are the past year and the past month respectively.

My target when I started it was that I would exercise for 33% of days, as you can see i'm not quite there (just shy of 20% or 1 piece of exercise in 5 days), as from yesterday however over the past quarter I have beat my target. Yeah!

I don't appear to have lost much weight although generally a handful of kgs less than last year but I am trimmer which i'm pleased with.

Right, that's that sorted...

now to cure cancer...

Silly looking pony

Walking to the garage last night where my car was getting serviced I saw this silly looking pony in an open field. How odd.

Bloody cats

Poppet killed another mouse last night.  Bloody thing!  That's a total of 3 mice and two little chicks so far this year.

Speaking of cats.  Out of the 2654 blog tags i've used.  130 (131 now) relate to cats!  That's nearly 5% for all those statisticians out there.

W-HAY!!!!

My team had to do a presentation to the whole company last week but I managed to get out of it as I hate doing that sort of thing. Each team member (8 of us) had to present a couple of slides talking about one specific element of our capital modelling work. In all I think they did very well but there were a few amusing moments.

The guy that sits next to me knocked the slide controller on the floor which created a big "W-HAY" from the audience (instigated by me, he, he). If given a little more lead time I should have done a "de de diddle diddle du de de de, TISH!" (circus music, you have to have played for S&L RFC to appreciate this).

Another amusing point for me was our graduate (he's no longer a graduate but he'll always be one in my eyes) dieing on stage halfway through his slide. He started of well then 30 seconds in started to struggle then passed on the baton to our boss to finish off.

The beauty of it all is that it was all filmed. The reason for this is so that those who work in a different country or those that just missed it can watch it on our intranet. I prefer my reason for it. So that I can watch their agony again and again. He, he!

How did that happen?

I was out having a couple of beers with a friend last night when I received a call from April telling me that she'd left her keys at home!  Doh!  Basically I had to leave mid pint in order to get back (an hour and a bit) at a reasonable time and not make April wait in the cold.

April ended up meeting me halfway in Sevenoaks where we had a lovely meal at Vine.  Resultant cost to me = £150 (meal, two cabs).  How did that happen???

Above inflation rise

My tea was 10p more expensive this morning.  That's a rise of 7.7%, way above inflation (last year it rose by 8.3%), and crazy.  I am seriously considering making my own tea in the morning.  Over the course of the year that's an additional £27 which I think is totally unreasonable.  All they do is put hot water, milk and a teabag in a cup and hand it to me.  £1.40 seems like a bit too much.

But this is nothing when compared to the great tea price increase of 1999 when I was working for Aquascutum.  A cup of tea went up from 10p to 15p overnight (50%).  This nearly resulted in riots.  Or more accurately it resulted in one bloke bringing in his own teabags and milk each day.

A verdict of unlawfully killed was reached.

Really?  What were the other options available to the jury?  What a waste of money.

Note:  I was going to post this entry earlier this morning but for some reason the copy and paste clipboard wasn't working on my work PC so didn't bother.  An hour or so later my brother e-mailed me with the same comment

"No shit..."

Great minds!

Bon Voyage!

Finally got round to booking the canal boat.  A little pricier than planned but will be good fun.  2 months to go.
