Well that was messy

We had our annual prize giving at TJS on Saturday.  It was a family event to begin with then the kangaroo court started and it all ended in debauchery.  We had to leave early as we had a gig to go to over in Tunbridge Wells.

Games with Arthur

With Arthur off school yesterday we had some entertaining to do

Snap, he won 3-0

One of the games April got me for my birthday is a little too old for him so we enjoyed stacking the naughty goats instead
A bit annoyed later in the afternoon waiting for mummy to come back from picking up Florence so resorted to a chocolate biscuit to keep the peace.

30 hours

Door to door it took about 30 hours to get to our apartment after leaving our house. Arthur was only sick 6 times. Twice in April! Urgh.

Earache

Flo's been sent home from school a couple of times already this week with earache.  She's now been subscribed some antibiotics so hopefully that will sort her out.  She seemed much better this morning so hopefully that's a good sign.  April's staying over in Folkstone tonight for some works thing so i'm home alone with both kids.  Arthur's sleeping has been terrible recently and wakes up and stays up at around 5 every day.  This morning it was 4!

Not what I had planned

April was ill and to be better safe than sorry got covid19 tested.  That meant that the whole house had to safe isolate, so I had to take a parental day off (not great timing as things are beginning to pick up) to look after the kids.

Flo lasted 30 mins of constant questions before asking for something else on.
Who's that guy, what's he riding, who's that guy (the same guy), where are they?

Flo was great and really helped out, otherwise it could have been a very long day.  Fortunately two of our friends were off too so were able to take Arwen out for a couple of walks.

Well, that's a turn up for the books

Ignoring the obvious seriousness of the pandemic currently hitting the world, 80%+ of my company has been told to work from home for the foreseeable future.  Only having two weeks left on my contract means this is effectively my last day in the office!  I think I have half of the classes of businesses that i'm due to parameterise more or less done.  The others are 50% done but need underwriter input before I can progress.  In summary, get in!  I don't mind going into work but it will save over 2 hours a day in commuting.

I'll also be able to claim back a few quid on transport, and not pay for future transport going forward.

My wife and my brother have the same and I know of at least another two Lloyd's market companies that are doing similar.  Either 100% or the majority like the above.

Unfortunately there's obviously the highly likely chance that our trip to Australia straight after may also get cancelled.  We'll be able to claim some of that back but a lot will just be net cost to us.  Plus we'll have to head over at some point which means I may then be back in a contract so would hit me financially that way too.  If I don't work I don't get paid.

Off Ill today

I was up for a lot of the night with food poisoning last night. It's an expensive problem as a contractor, I'm better today but taking the day off today just in case. No work = no pay

Work away day

We had a departmental away day last week and it culminated in us all going on a bbq boat.  Urgh.  I don't like going on boats at the best of times but this time I was still hanging from going on the booze with the rugby nights the night before.

Luckily it was on the flat waters of Canary Wharf.

1st in ages

First bit of baby sick on me in ages.  She had the cheek to laugh at me afterwards too.  Bloody thing.

End of the evening

April was holding a baby shower for our friend Tricia in Epsom and we were both due to be in Brockenhurst the next day so I organised beers worth Adrian and James in Winchester.

We basically watched the rugby followed  by small pub crawl. Followed by lovely Thai food in a new restaurant then more beer and a little sick.

Not well today

I was fine when I woke up this morning but about halfway through my train journey I started to feel a little ropey. When I got to my office I was sweating and within 20 mins had to dash to the toilet to be sick. I'm feeling much better now but I was terrible earlier.

Room with a view

The view from No. 30 St. Mary's Axe 40 stories up.  As mentioned yesterday a friend of mine works int he building so they get access to the building's restaurants.  This is the upper most part.  Where I had the 30/40 burger.  Only £15, considering the venue, fairly cheap.

The only downside is I still feel a little queasy.  It's a bloody long way up.  The last picture is of my current office, all the way down there on the floor.

I feel sick

I've been ripping dvds so that I can play them on my tablet during my commute. Here's a list of the ones i've done so far.

Lord of the Rings (All 3 extended editions 6 disks)
Caddy Shack
Dodgeball
Spaceballs
The Great Outdoors
Moon (not seen it yet)
Ronin
The Crow
Grosse Pointe Blank
High Fidelity

I've been watching Ronin over the last couple of days and this morning I watched in my opinion the greatest car chase ever. It's the scene towards the end when they're driving through the tunnels in Paris. Anyway, as I was pulling into London Bridge I looked up and felt a bit queasy. Bloody hell. Do I need to take travel sickness pills now?

Tuesday, 28 June 2011

Well that was close...

I perhaps went to the gym too soon after giving blood.  40 lengths in and I was nearly sick climbing out of the pool.  That would have been embarising.

Early night for me.

Wednesday, 7 April 2010

Dear oh dear

I went out for a few beers last night with my mate James. One of us didn't make it into work this morning.

Ha, ha!

Who would do something like that?

No fair... I'm coming down with a cold

I felt it coming on last night so had a pre-emptive lemsip last night. It was not better this morning and it's getting worse now. Boo hoo!

Time for more lemsip.

I had yesterday off as I was feeling terrible, i'm not much better now, so am not going to go in today too.

I hate being ill.

StuartM.D.

It turns out that James (one of the sandwich year students who has been off ill for over two weeks now) has been diagnosed with glandular fever.

I’ve been ill with something or other for nearly a month now so it got me thinking. I looked up the details on the nhs direct site.

http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleID=213

Evidence

1) Ill for nearly a month
2) Sore throat
3) Tiredness, lack of energy
4) Loss of appetite
5) Muscle ache and headache

April’s also been ill for quite a while now and was prescribed amoxicillin.

“At first, glandular fever is sometimes wrongly diagnosed, for example as a bacterial throat infection or tonsillitis. If you are given treatment for a bacterial infection with the antibiotics ampicillin or amoxicillin, you may develop a rash of small red spots.”

She has also complained of a rash and only stopped taking the pills a few days before. And she’s still not 100%.

Since then I have also been prescribed amoyycillin so I guess we shall wait and see.

Before you all say, I have not been kissing James (Glandular fever is also know as the kissing disease), we must have drank out of each other’s pint or something by mistake.

It’s all a bloody pain though as I’m off on holiday from tomorrow till next Tuesday. What a bum time to be off ill!!!

Tuesday, 13 November 2007

Urgh... I still feel rough!

This is not good, I never get ill and will be having my 4th day off this month. Not good at all. I hope these drugs work because i'm on holiday on Thursday through to next Tuesday!
