Wow. Chicken in a chicken soup

I quite like Waitrose's chicken and vegetable soup for lunch when working from home.  There's occasionally a tiny strand of chicken in a spoon full when eating it.  I bought some more yesterday and cooked some for m lunch and there is actually large pieces of chicken breast in there.  Either i've been very unlucky over the past 5 years i've been buying it or they've listened to customer feedback and have actually started to add proper bits of chicken.

Sunday roast

We met one of the other rugby families out for a roast on Sunday.  The Rock Inn, Chiddingstone.  It was great fun.

A whole chicken, 3 ribs of beef and a shoulder of lamb

Havet for lunch

The kids last day of their summer holidays is today so they're home with me.  I'm still working so have done very little parenting.  The kids have been good so I took them out to our local Turkish for lunch.  Yum!

Big lunch time walk with Arwen

I took Arwen out for a big walk yesterday lunch time.  It was nice, probably one of the last nice ones weatherwise we'll get for a while.

Fancy Sunday food

Our usual Sommelier Soiree group (dinner party) decided to go on tour this Sunday and headed into London  We usually take turns and go round each others houses, each taking it in turn cooking starters, mains and deserts, whilst sampling 6 bottles of wine.

This time we went to Marjorie's, on the recommendation from the Guardian's food critic Grace Dent

It was pretty good.  It was a sort of a small plate sharing affair similar to tapas where we had lamb carpaccio, escargot, langoustine, beef and an awful lot of cheese.

We were home in time at 6 for our childminder who looked after our 2 and another couple of kids from the other 2 couples.

Lunch with Flo

April took Arthur to a birthday party so I asked Flo what she wanted for lunch.  She said Thai, so I took her round the corner.  Just as the food turned up I got a call April reminding that Flo had a rearranged singing lesson.  Doh!  Oh well.

Lunch

The weather is lovely at the moment in Tonbridge, so I thought I'd cook my lunch on the BBQ. Delicious.

Yes!

I was only just chatting to April on Monday about the fact that Jon (the landlord at my local) start making rolls again.  I even discussed price.  I felt £2.50 was about right.  They haven't had a chef since before Christmas and there are always people coming in asking if they do food.  Yesterday, he started doing them again!  He must must have a listening device planted on me somewhere or maybe i'm in my very own less Hollywood version of the Truman Show.  And yes, they were £2.50.

Thought i'd try something different

I've had a couple of days off ill this week.  Nothing serious, just a pretty bad cold.  Yesterday wasn't so bad but still not great.  I'm a bit better today so have popped out somewhere different for lunch.  Kingdom.  It's about 15mins drive from the house but is a pretty cool venue, if a little too hippy for me.  It's also full of young mums and rich women who don't work.  I should have brought my noise cancelling headphones.

It's been a while

I cooked my first Sunday lunch in ages yesterday.  Pretty decent effort.  I used my crinkle cutter for the potatoes, carrots and parsnips for extra surface area.

Waitrose had two options for chickens.  One at £6, the other at £22.  I went for the more expensive one as I can't imagine the life the cheap one had had.

Yum

April's got more into her cooking recently. I'd let her cook this for me again. Pork belly in black vinegar. Yum

Alternative Christmas lunch

We'd eaten enough turkey since last weekend so had some lobster again for our Christmas lunch.

It's arrived

The new Surface Pro has arrived and it's pretty much the same as the old one but perhaps a little heavier.  It should be with all the kit in it.  I think it's more or less set up now with all of my old stuff in there and i've also test driven it for football manager over lunch and had plenty of battery left over to spare.

Triple kids parties this week!

One on Saturday and a doubler this morning.  Here's Arthur's all tuckered out before grabbing an impromptu lunch at Sankey's.  2 lobsters, some oysters and steak.  I drew the short straw and had to drive so no nice wine for me.  Both kids were excellent throughout.

Fell asleep just as we arrived.
There's music at Sankey's on Sunday.  The guys decided on having a little dance.  The musician was very patient!
