New job?

 I had an interview for a new contract yesterday and they have made an offer.  It's slightly less than i'm on now with less bonus opportunity.  It's also 4 days a week in the office which i'm not keen on but it's an offer.  My current place wants me to stay but no formal offer has been made (they're in the process of a take over), despite my boss trying, but I can't hang around.  With only 6 weeks before this contract expires, i'll need to start looking for the next one soon.  If they get back to me with an improved offer, and agree to being flexible with working hours I might take it.

3 strikes and you're out

 I've been off work for over two months now but things have been picking up over the past couple of weeks.  In fact I was at the final stage of 3 roles, this morning I found out that that I didn't get any of them the last of which was my preference.  2 were apparently very close and a third was given to someone for £300/d cheaper!  Now back to the drawing board.

Still unemployed

 It's been 4 weeks without a contract.  This will be the longest i've been out of work since I started contracting 5 and a half years ago.

I've had a couple of interviews during the 4 weeks but nothing has come out of it.  I've had a couple of leads this week but no sign of an interview yet.

Inbetween contracts

 My last contract ended on the 31st of December so i'm currently unemployed.  I've got a retention bonus due to get paid in a couple of weeks that will tidy me over for another month or so but really need to get a new role sooner rather than later.

3 interviews

I had 3 interviews this week, the last on Tuesday offered me the role that day. It was the only day rate role, the others were ftc so I've decided to take it. It's for 11% more money too. I should start next week. 

Poor girl

Had to leave work at lunchtime today to pick up this little one.  She wasn't feeling very well and the nursery asked us if we could take her home.

She's fine, but they tend to send them home for the slightest things.

At least she let me work from home so I won't lose any pay for it.  Which is a good thing as my contract runs out in 3 weeks.

P.S.  I went for an interview last week and have just found out that I didn't get it.  It would have been very interesting.  It was only part time to begin with but did pay more money.  Shame.

A new career?

I haven't had a lot of time to think about what I want to do for a living when I get back but I can safely say that this is not one of them.

We're 12 stories up.  The apartment building has 46 floors.  He's attached to two ropes and only carrying a bucket and a squeegee.   The building's only 10 years old or so, at least give the poor bloke an electric cage to go up and down in.

Incidentally it was feels like -9 this morning, and that would have been on the ground floor.  15 mph winds too!

Guess what the average tube driver earns each year:

£25k?  Not even close.
£30k?  You're kidding right?
£35k?  Still stone cold.
£40k?  Getting there but still a way to go.
£45k?  Almost there.
£46k?  Yep, you got it.

And that's the average.  Some earn more!  Plus free rail travel for them and thier family.  Also a £500 bonus for Olympic games work. And they're getting 5% increase and .5% on top of inflation over the next 3!

Jeez.
