Ramen

I had to drop off  my suit and hat for Ascot at the hire place on Sunday so we all went into Tunbridge Wells for the afternoon.  We went to Wagamamas for lunch.  There was an option to try a new Vietnamese place but Flo insisted.  She loves ramen!

I've made it a few times at home and have had some mixed success.  I think I just need practice.  April bought me 2 ramen bowls for Christmas a couple of years ago but then broke one a couple of days later (promising to get me a new one, never has...).  I'm fed up waiting so have ordered another today.  I'll make one during the week.

My own Katsu curry

I made my first chicken katsu curry on Saturday.  Not from scratch, but I think it was a good representation of what I used to enjoy in the city in the Japanese Canteen chain.  There's a place on Tonbridge High Street that does a very good version too.

Curry sauce

Shop bought breaded chicken

With my home made pickled ginger

Lot's of work to do it all from scratch so I think this is much better use of my time.

Made a couple of Ramens this week, one was a test run for board game night.

Chicken Ramen

Was supposed to be beef but the cat got at the fillet we were defrosting.  She ate a whole one raw.  The dog got the other fried up.  Lucky git.

Broth

Toppings

It was very succesful.

Leaving present

Any idea what to get a Japanese collegue who's leaving the UK to go back to our head office in Japan?

I imagine we'll get over £100.

I think something quinisentially English.  He's already got a fancy umbrella.

Aren't the Japanese funny

All the way from Japan. We've got some Japanese visitors in today and they gave us a box full of these. They're supposed to be green tea favoured but tastes like white (green?) chocolate to me.

Aren't the Japanese funny?

I was chatting to the Japanese chap in my team today about Valentines and he passed on a wikipedia link to their version White Day.
In Japan, Valentine's Day is observed by females who present chocolate gifts (either store-bought or handmade), usually to a male, as an expression of love, courtesy or social obligation.  At least they're honest.

Word of the day

Ichigenka-In insurance it relates to being told to reinsure something by head office, and the profit / loss of the transaction is ignored when it comes to your own accounts.

Or something like that. Maybe it was lost in translation.
